Multiple Perspectives of Our Beloved Metro Parks
Held each October, Artober Nashville is a month-long celebration of the arts in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. Artober Nashville is a program of NowPlayingNashville, an initiative of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, in collaboration with many community partners.
Artists Ben Caldwell, Brenda Stein and Marleen De Waele-De Bock offer three different perspectives (and three different media) inspired by our wonderful metro parks.
Our current NASHVILLE PARKS exhibit includes over 2 dozen works by coppersmith, Ben Caldwell, wood turner, Brenda Stein, and painter, Marleen De Waele – De Bock — each offering a unique take on inspirations from some of Tennessee’s most revered and beloved parks, such as Warner Park and Radnor Lake.
Marleen De Bock has large-scale canvases depicting many notable sites like the highly recognizable Shelby Bottoms Trestle in East Nashville, and beautiful reflections found in Centennial Park’s Lake Watauga.
Local wood turner, Brenda Stein created elegant hand-made boxes from black walnut and black cherry trees that recently fell at Warner Park. The handsome boxes, each signed and inscribed, make ideal (and affordable) gifts for both men and women, and easily fill corporate or personal needs. For out-of-town thank-you gifts, they are the perfect “Tennessee” memento.
Ben Caldwell is best known for his exquisite copper and silver serving pieces. For this exhibit, he is painting (with fire), on none less than copper canvases, to create unique enameled wall sculptures. Each innovative piece was inspired by time spent at Radnor Lake. (Caldwell’s enameled wall sculptures are outdoor friendly).
