SUMMARY:Week 2: MONUMENTAL WOMEN BY ALAN LEQUIRE | CONTEMPORARY SCULPTURES
DESCRIPTION:Sculptor Alan LeQuire has spent the majority of his career honoring women by making portraits. A walk through his Nashville gallery and studio reveals a vast body of work\, miniature to monumental in scale\, in bronze\, plaster and terra cotta. His colossal Athena Parthenos\, the largest indoor sculpture in the western world\, recreates one of the most important monumental goddess statues of all time\, and five of his public monuments commemorate woman suffrage in the state that had the final vote to ratify the 19th Amendment. In this centennial year of woman suffrage\, and an important time for women in contemporary history\, a comprehensive exhibit is being curated\, cementing what LeQuire has been quietly suggesting and aiming for\, for forty years. \nThe exhibit\, Monumental Women\, is being timed for the summer of 2020\, forecast to be the peak time for the thousands of historians and suffrage fans who have already organized travel plans to take in as much as possible regarding the subject. Recasts of more than a dozen of LeQuire’s twenty-plus suffrage portraits will be included such as Ida. B. Wells\, Carrie Chapman Catt\, J. Frankie Pierce and Anne Dallas Dudley. Maquettes for some of the public monuments will be on view\, and LeQuire’s new 100 Year March\, a small bronze commemorating suffrage\, will be available for purchase. While the exhibit certainly intends a nod to the hundreds of suffrage heroines\, the depth of Monumental Women is much broader. \nLearn more about this Monumental Women Exhibit by visiting the official press release. \n\nBrowse Samples Of Alan LeQuire’s Portfolio

SUMMARY:Week 4: BOTANICAL COLLECTION | DIGITAL COMPOSITIONS ON CANVAS BY SUSIE CAMPION
DESCRIPTION:Susie Campion’s exciting botanical collection of unique digital compositions on canvas created from original watercolors \nABOUT SUSIE CAMPION \nAlways an artist\, it wasn’t until my discovery of graphic design that I found a path to follow. Formal art school training and tens of thousands of practical hours later\, taught me how to put design into print. From page layouts\, posters\, and logos I have always looked at my subject with an artists’ eye\, composing\, coloring and shaping what is in view. I see design as an integral part of my work whether it is a practical application for a graphic project or painting a watercolor; composition and design are always present. \nMy life has been centered around family and caring for others. Never afraid to try new things and explore other cultures\, I spent time in Haiti on mission trips dedicated to improve the health and well being of the people in a remote region. My role was to support the team but most importantly\, to be present for the Haitian people so they would know they were not forgotten. As a wife and mother of now two adult children I learned early on how important nurturing was to my son and daughter’s well being and to instill in my children curiosity\, kindness and love. All necessary attributes to grow good people. \nAs a student and a teacher\, Pilates and yoga also helps me stay grounded. It is gratifying to help my students find balance for their bodies to help ease pain while gaining strength. These physical modalities are totally aligned with how I experience design; I look\, rearrange\, color and create compositions that are visually balanced with purpose. \nMY MEDIUM\nThe artist in me communicates through watercolor allowing me to express what I see with brushes on paper. As a graphic designer my medium is a nearly endless digital canvas. Bringing together brushes\, paint\, and paper and mixing it digitally with pixels allows me to create exciting and unique formations from my original watercolor paintings. I start with drawing and painting my subject matter. Capturing nuances of color while conveying the essences of a garden are what intrigues me. Scanning the paintings permits me to bring into a digital setting what I created in an actual landscape. Artistically arranging new compositions from original paintings while employing different printing techniques like paper and canvas\, captures new and fresh designs\, each one of a kind. \nMY INSPIRATION\nNature provides the only palette I need. Gardens\, botanical illustrations and an endless curiosity with flower arrangements and plants provides my subject matter. I’m inspired by timeless art.\nSometimes I rework illustrations and make them my own by creating new compositions\, new color palettes and arrangements. That is why I work. \n\nBrowse Samples Of Susie Campion’s Portfolio

SUMMARY:Week 1: BOTANICAL COLLECTION | DIGITAL COMPOSITIONS ON CANVAS BY SUSIE CAMPION
