Have your photo made with Nashville's largest indoor flag: June 29th & 30th 2-4:00 -- Ben Caldwell's 48 square foot enameled copper Flag will be on display this summer. Guests will be permitted to be photographed with the colossal stars & stripes just in time to gear up for the 4th of July. Kids are certainly welcome. We'll even have red, white, & blue popsicles for our young patriots.
Meet Ben Caldwell Thursday, June 30th 3-6pm. Meet the coppersmith of the very popular mammoth Flag. Ben will be available to discuss his innovative large-scale cloisonne as well as other smaller scale works.
Meet the Randolphs: July 14th- 16th Hillary, Somers and Comfort visit Nashville and bring 3 different components of sculpture on 3 different days:
Meet Somers Randolph July 14th 5-8pm. Somers Randolph is special guest at our July supper club. Join us early for hors d'oeuvres and meet the artist (5-6pm), or join us for dinner and a discussion on The Concept of Form (6-8pm)*. The Nashville native stone sculptor will lead us in conversation "from whittles to refined carvings" as we dine in the main room of LeQuire Gallery served by one of Nashville's hot new chefs. *(Dinner is $40/rsvp to ecave@mindspring.com).
Meet Comfort Randolph July 15th 1-4:00. Comfort Randolph is truly the sculptor's daughter. At only 12 years-old, Comfort has found her own expression in the three-dimensional world, carving animals. Her works will be on display and the young sculptor will be available to meet. Refreshments.
Meet Hillary Randolph July 16th 1-4:00. Early in their relationship Hillary discovered a trunk full of Somers' tiny soapstone carvings and decided to apply her fashion experience to a sculptor's whittlings. They cast the miniature sculptures in silver and gold, creating sculpture as jewelry. Hillary will be at LeQuire Gallery to share her expertise, offer updates on previous purchases and tease us with the newest designs from the collection.
Meet Alan LeQuire every Saturday in August, 12-3:00 During the month of August Alan LeQuire will be working on the next colossal portrait head of his Cultural Heroes series. Guests are invited to visit Alan's studio space, ask questions, and see the progression of the next exciting portrait (the word on the street is that it will be a portrait of Louis Armstrong). The Cultural Heroes to date (Billie Holiday, Josh White, Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Paul Roboeson, Marian Anderson and Bessie Smith) will be on view in LeQuire Gallery for the month of August.
